Pizza Vegan Za

Who says you can’t enjoy pizza because you’re a vegan? Not us. We often host pizza parties and enjoy IPA pizza, Vegan pizza, Gluten-Free pizza, Average pizza; you name it, we probably make it.

This recipe is for all of our vegan friends. As we said, pizza can be vegan. Our vegan favorites are a simple crust, San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, and basil.

7 ingredients

Condiments

  • 1 tbsp Vegan butter

Baking & Spices

  • 2 1/4 tsp Active dry yeast

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp Garlic Salt

  • 1 tsp Sugar, organic

Oils

  • 3 TAB Olive oil

Liquids

  • 3/4 cup Water

Instructions

Za Dough

  • Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees

  • Stir together warm water, yeast, and sugar and set aside for 10 minutes; this will allow activation (it will be foamy, if not frothy, the yeast might be old, or the water was too hot). Foamy is good

  • Add salt, oil, and flour (1/2 cup at a time)

  • Knead (a stand mixer with a dough hook is easiest) until it forms a ball. Knead for 7 minutes

  • Place the ball of dough into a large greased bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm location for 1 hour or until doubled in size

  • Punch the dough down and knead until it becomes smooth and more firm

  • Now you can make your vegan za or freeze it for later

Make the Za

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface

  • Sprinkle the pizza pan with a pinch or two of flour and transfer the dough onto the pan

  • Brush the dough with 1-2 TAB olive oil (this helps the top of the dough stay moist and not overcook)

  • Fork prick the dough to prevent dough from puffing

  • Pre-bake the dough for 5-7 minutes or until the bottom is beginning to brown

  • Remove from the oven, brush the crust with 1-2 tablespoons of melted vegan butter, and add your toppings

  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are cooked
