TASTY TAHINI RECIPE EASY AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN BUYING IT
Why would you make your own tahini when you can buy it? As we start the journey to a healthy plant-based lifestyle, it is so much better, and cheaper to make your own recipes. This way you know what exactly goes into your meals. If you are like me, I just thought tahini was a fancy base for hummus, it is but is way more than that. I primarily use it for hummus, sauces, smoothies, baking, soups, and dressings.
Tahini is essentially toasted sesame seeds, oil, and salt. More on that later.
Sesame seeds offer at least 15 health and nutrition benefits. Sesame seeds have been used for medicine for thousands (yes you read correctly thousands) of years. I was surprised to unearth the power of the sesame seed.
Sesame is:
A plant protein
A source of the B Vitamins (Thiamine, Niacin, and B6)
Is rich in antioxidants
A source of Fiber
Lower cholesterol and triglycerides
Good for lowering blood pressure
Supports healthy bones
Reduce inflammation
Aid blood sugar control
Supports your immune system
I love to use homemade tahini for my hummus.
This is so easy you are going to wonder why you haven’t made it before.
3 Ingredients and 7 minutes is all it takes
Vegan, Gluten-Free, Paleo
18 oz Sesame Seeds
1/2 tsp Salt
Olive Oil
Toast sesame seeds until they turn a darker shade (do not burn) this should only take 2-3 minutes. Take your toasted sesame seeds and salt to your food processor (or blender, or ninja, or bullet) blend until it become a paste 3 minutes then drizzle olive oil into your paste until you get your desired consistency. That’s it. You are done, this is a great foundation piece for soups, salads, and of course hummus. See our hummus recipe here.
